Khatila Ali Abdullah, an elderly woman from Mosul, Iraq, survived the siege of ISIS, thanks to her 20 chickens.

Whenever ISIS would start firing at her neighbourhood, her 20 chickens would hide and would come out later when the gunfire would calm down, thus allowing the old woman, living in the besieged area, to feed on their eggs.

Khatila, who, during her lifetime survived most of the 20th century conflicts that took place in Iraq such as the Iran-Iraq war, the Gulf war and the 2003 Invasion of Iraq, says the things have never been so critical until now.

Finally (and after the efforts made by the Iraqi Army) her grandchildren were able to reach her house in Mamoun, a district in Western Mosul and take her out. While fleeing they had to carry her through some of the most dangerous spots besieged by ISIS.
While fleeing through the desert, they eventually met a convoy of the Iraqi Army. The Army took care of her and placed her in one of the refugee centers where this interview was made.
