Cyrillic alphabet to turn Latin - 5th column at work in Kazakhstan - Like This Article

April 20th, 2017 - Fort Russ News -

President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has instructed the Government to develop before the end of 2017 a timetable for the transition of the Kazakh alphabet to Latin.

"From 2018, we will begin to develop textbooks for secondary schools," - it states said in this article published on the website of the Cabinet.

As Nazarbayev noted, the need to transition to the Latin alphabet is justified by political reasons, the development of technology, as well as the "particularities of learning and science in the XXI century."

Nazarbayev added during the transition phase to the Latin alphabet, Cyrillic will still be used as a secondary alphabet. By 2025, all business documents, periodicals and newly published books shall be in Latin.

Ilia Belous, a Russian political activist and leader of "Patriot" political faction, writes in his facebook post; "The 5th column in Kazakhstan is pushing the country to become a part of the Western World. In the 1990s, Nazarbayev promised to make the Russian language an official language of the State. He made institutions for the development of the Russian language, so that Russian intelligentsia would speak highly of him - and they did. Concurrently, he 'sat on several chairs' at once. He was involved in Eurasian integration initiatives and often spoke about uniting "Turkic peoples." Meanwhile, closer integration with Russia has been shunned away, in favour of the West."
