Lebanese President Michel Aoun stressed that Lebanon is successfully solving the ongoing difficult economic situation, resulting from the US sanctions, the global economic crisis and a humanitarian catastrophe in Syria which brought hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees to Lebanon.

On Monday he met with the delegation of the American Task Force for Lebanon (ATFL) in Baabda Palace. The delegation was headed by the Ambassador Edward Gabriel and expressed deep satisfaction that Lebanese political life has finally regained its vitality after latest presidential election in October, following long period of unrest and instability that has negatively impacted the country and all fields of its socio-economical and life .

President Aoun pointed out that the national consensus that has been achieved as a result of the presidential election also provided an ideal state of stability despite the existence of issues, still needed to be addressed, namely the issue of Syrian refugees, fight against terrorism, maintaining security on the Lebanese-Syrian border, stopping the Israeli incursions and border violations in the south and the implementation of resolution 1701.

President Aoun also focused on the security matters, namely as regards the border control and thwarting the sleeping terrorist cells, while expressing readiness to work with United States, regarding the security issues.

In responses to questions, asked by the members of delegation, President Aoun pointed to the bill that is being prepared in Congress in order to impose new financial sanctions on specific Lebanese political parties, institutions and even some individuals, stressing this would cause great harm to Lebanon and its people, in addition to having negative impact on US-Lebanon relations.

Aoun said it is necessary to prevent the implementation of such bill and welcomed any effort by the American Task Force for Lebanon regarding the matter.

Currently, the Trump administration is trying to introduce a bill that would impose further sanctions against certain Lebanese political parties, organizations and institutions, in particularl Hezbollah and the aligned groups from March 8th alliance. According to some, the sanctions could also reach the members of Aoun's Free Patriotic Movement this time. The sanctions would also have a negative impact on the already fragile Lebanese economy.
