The Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons has rejected the proposals made by Russia and Iran, regarding the investigation into the alleged Khan Sheikhoun chemical assault.

Previously, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the goal of the American aggression on Syrian airbase was not the destruction of the Syrian chemical weapons, but rather a show-off of force and intimidation.

In a speech at the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons session, Mikhail Ulyanov, the Director of the Arms Control Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry said "The United States had no evidence to hold the Syrian government accountable, however, they carried out a military operation to threaten Damascus without waiting for the results of the investigation", adding that "the missile strike targeted a facility located in the territory of a sovereign state, which was a flagrant violation of the norms of international law, including the Charter of the United Nations, and has a legal basis to be called an act of aggression."

Before the vote in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Ulyanov said his country is ready to consult with Washington in order to discuss the proposals, related to an investigation into the possible use of chemical weapons in Khan Sheikhoun, Idleb, which occurred on the fourth of April.

"If our American partners are interested in the disclosure of the truth, then there are opportunities to reach an agreement, otherwise it is not possible to look for solutions that would satisfy both parties", he was heard saying. However, he later said "the failure to conduct an investigation in the alleged use of chemical weapons in the Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun harms the reputation of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons."

On the 7th of April, the US forces targeted a Syrian airbase, under the false pretext that the planes from the targeted airbase allegedly carried out chemical attacks against civilians in Khan Sheikhoun. 59 Tomahawk missiles were launched, however, only 23 of them reached their targets as the rest got intercepted.
