Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council, Konstantin Kosachyov, responded to the statements, previously made by Nikky Haley, the US ambassador to  the UN, in which she urged Russia to put pressure on Syria.

Kosachyov said  the words of Haley are either a result of complete lack of understanding of the background of the Syrian conflict and how diplomacy works in general or the fact that she’s just trying to push the traditionally reckless American rhetoric and lash out at everyone who doesn’t share the same opinion.

He also stressed that the United States and their allies are, since years ago, trying to escalate the military conflict in Syria and are forcing their way of changes by supporting attempts of overthrowing the elected government, meaning they also bear direct responsibility for continuation of the Syrian crisis.

Russia has repeatedly called for the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution "2254", which also provides the basic principles for settlement of the Syrian crisis, including the principle explicitly pointing out that the Syrian citizens are the only ones who can decide the future of their country.

It shall be noted that since the outbreak of war in Syria back in March 2011, the US, along with their Western and Arab allies, are trying to systematically destroy Syria by supporting terrorist groups.
