Donetsk People's Republic will not return to the Ukraine as part of a federal structure of the country. This "ship has sailed" said the head of DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko.
In an interview with "Izvestiya", Zakharchenko said that the Republic does not discard an option of a confederal coexistence with Ukraine, but as an independent state and strictly equal.
However, according to Zakharchenko, it will be only after Ukraine "changes not only the government of the day, but also the entire ruling elite."
"We were ready to talk with Kiev about federalization in the spring of 2014, before Kiev began to shoot us out of tanks, guns and aircraft. Now we are ready to conduct a dialogue with Ukraine on an equal footing, as an independent state. People of Donbass will never give up their gains - freedom and independence - because they were found amid great suffering and a lot of blood.
Maybe, as an independent state, we will be ready to negotiate with Kiev on coexistence, on a confederal basis. This will be possible only after they replace the greedy elites" - he stressed.
"You can't change geography. We are ready for these negotiations now, but Kiev is not. So the future is multivariate. And among these options ,there are both peace negotiations and war, "- said Zakharchenko.
