EU officials announced that 3 more countries, apart from Ukraine, joined the EU’s extension of sanctions, aimed at certain individuals from Russia and Ukraine and which will last for a period of 6 months.
The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini said Albania and Montenegro, two candidate states to join the EU, accepted the EU’s decision to further extend sanctions against specific persons from Russia and Ukraine. In addition, the EU’s decision was also adopted by Norway and Ukraine, a move warmly received by the EU officials.
The EU Council’s extended batch of sanctions, previously imposed on approx.150 citizens of Russia and Ukraine, will last until September 15th. The “blacklisted” persons are accused of being behind “destabilization” of Ukraine and making “violations”, related to Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence.
