General Inspector of the German army ordered to inspect all army barracks on Sunday after Nazi memorabilia was discovered in one of the barracks.

The Wehrmacht-era memorabilia was discovered in a barrack in Donaueschingen, a town in the south-west of Germany. The controversial items were found in the garrison of an army officer who was arrested on suspicion of planning a racially motivated attack.

As a result, General Inspector Volker Wieker ordered inspection of all barracks throughout the country.

A spokesman for the German Federal Ministry of Defense confirmed that General Inspector issued an order to inspect all military barracks throughout the country due to a suspicion that there could be Nazi sympathizers and collectors of Wehrmacht memorabilia within the ranks of the German Army.

The German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen said the army has to uproot the far-right elements within its ranks.

Preliminary report on results of investigation is expected to be published on Tuesday, while the final results, regarding the matter, are scheduled to be announced on the 16th of May.
