It's 1984, and Russia is Emmanuel Goldstein and "The Two-Minute Hate" is 24 hours - Like This Article

- Some observations by Tom Winter -

The hysteria is a smokescreen.
Pickpocket parable:
while one earnest chap focuses your attention, his partner snares your wallet.

It's 1984, only Russia is Emmanuel Goldstein, and the daily "two-minute hate" is the USA's 24-hour news cycle. Americans everywhere are posting "call your representatives, demand a full investigation of ties to Russia." And they are doing it.

They've been pushed to it, and in my view, played.

Here is Goldstein on screen during a "Two-Minute Hate:"

He was abusing Big Brother, he was denouncing the dictatorship of the Party, he was demanding the immediate conclusion of peace with Eurasia, he was advocating freedom of speech, freedom of the Press, freedom of assembly, freedom of thought, he was crying hysterically that the revolution had been betrayed ...

Freedom of thought! Peace with Eurasia?  Treason!

In the US, no outlet is more revered than NPR, and what is NPR doing? Here's a sample from yesterday:
Russia meddled in the elections. [It's a fact now!]  More elections are coming. There are local elections this fall. Mark Warner, who you just interviewed, has talked about he's got a gubernatorial race coming up in his state in Virginia in the fall. And if Russia meddled last time, they want to figure out what happened and prevent that from happening again.

The story was headlined

Before Firing, James Comey Led FBI Probe Into Possible Russia-Trump Ties

The weasel-word "possible" is generally omitted or ignored, with the suggestion taken as fact.

Russia has been established in the media as the enemy. Therefore, stuff like the following meme has been generated, and outraged Americans are posting it on social media:

You can't have treason without an enemy. Fortunately there is Russia.

It's a hugely successful smokescreen. To hear people talking, to see their posts, one can only be reminded of this passage from Orwell:

"Before the Hate had proceeded for thirty seconds, uncontrollable exclamations of rage were breaking out from half the people in the room. The self-satisfied sheep-like face on the screen, and the terrifying power of the Eurasian army behind it, were too much to be borne: besides, the sight or even the thought of Goldstein produced fear and anger automatically."

While America is whelmed in Russia-hysteria, the actual Establishment is busy at several other projects that seem hell-bent on turning The Richest Country On Earth into Greece. Horrible things are going on behind the Treason with Russians curtain:

No one is begging and pleading with their fellow citizens to call and demand action about the proposed $800 Billion cut from "entitlement" programs.

No voice is heard in horror at US generals contemplating a winnable nuclear war.

No one is demanding that you call your representatives to change the Obama administration's plans -- still very much on -- to spend $20 billion a year upgrading US nukes.

No one is insisting that Ukraine stop bombing civilians - after all, the "regions under control of armed groups" as the UN has called them, are supported by Russia!

No one is demanding that you call your representatives to demand a stop to US military assistance for Saudi Arabia in Yemen -- nor is anyone insisting on Gay Rights in Saudi Arabia, (even though in Saudi Arabia, a "Gay Parade" is an array of victims hanged by the neck from a beam. Insisting on Gay Rights is just for Russia --  as Angela Merkel scolded right after her Saudi trip involving German military training for the enlightened kingdom.)

No one is insisting on supporting Social Security, replenishing the zeroed-out Social Security Trust Fund, or supporting the Post Office. (This could be a very long long list.)

Behind the carnival show curtain, in sum, horrible things are being gotten away with, while all our American anger is being short-circuited to Emmanuel Goldstein.
