The newest Russian airliner MC-21 has passed its first flight. Permission for the first flight was given on the preceding day for the first production model out of the Irkut Aviation plant.

Back in December, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin noted that the flight should take place "by the end of spring." And so it was. After passing all systems checks, the Russian MS-21-300 took off into the air.

Employees of the Irkut Aircraft plant feared that the weather might be a problem, and the flight would have to be postponed. However, the meteorological conditions turned out to be suitable for the first operational flight.

Before the first flight test, the new Russian airliner carried out "drills" in the flight test division of the Irkut Aviation Plant, a branch of United Aircraft Corporation [Объединённая авиастроительная корпорация]*. The press service of the company said that in the preparation for the first flight, all aircraft systems were inspected, and the start-ups of the main and auxiliary power units were tested.
