Units of the Syrian Army repelled a major ISIS offensive on the eastern axis of Deir Ez Zour Airport in the eastern province of Deir Ez Zour yesterday, causing severe losses in terms of human casualties and equipment among the ranks of ISIS.

According to military sources, ISIS yesterday tried to achieve a breach towards the eastern axis of the airport , however, their attack was repelled by the Syrian Army and caused huge losses in terms of personnel and equipment. In addition, army units also blew up a 23 meters long tunnel, previously used by ISIS in the industrial district of Deir Ez Zour city. 

On Tuesday evening, intense strikes were carried out in the vicinity of the regiment 137, south-west of Deir Ez Zour city. 

Later on Tuesday night, Iraq jets carried out a raid on a town of Abu Kamal, located in the eastern countryside of Deir Ez Zour. The town is also known as a major fortress of ISIS in Deir Ez Zour province. According to some sources, Iraqi forces, who also cooperate with the Syrian Army, decided to carry out raids after one of their soldiers was reportedly captured by ISIS. The raids resulted in deaths of dozens of terrorists, the top one named Abdul Rahman Jamal Al Assil including. Many were also left injured.

Later, Syrian Air Force carried out strikes in a response to the shelling of the Syrian Army positions by the terrorist groups known as the "Lions of the East Army" and “Martyrs of Qaryatayn Brigade” at Jordanian border.

According to the field reports, clashes between the units of the Syrian Army and the two aforementioned terrorist groups also broke out not long after Syrian forces took control of the area of Sabaa Biar and a number of surrounding hills, located east of Damascus and in the south-western countryside of Homs province towards the direction of Iraqi border after terrorists allegedly tried to halt the advancements, made by the Syrian Army. 

The terrorists are believed to have come from Al Tanf border area. Currently, about 4000 terrorists are being trained by the US, UK and Jordanian forces in Al Tanf area at the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Recently, reports came about the huge amassing of the American, British and Jordanian forces at the Syrian-Jordanian border. According to some sources, they are preparing for a military confrontation with the Syrian Army, while others claim they want to create a buffer zone at the southern Syrian-Iraqi border so that the two countries would no longer be able to coordinate each other directly in their fight against terrorism.
