Russia is expelling five Moldovan diplomats in response to the actions of Chisinau, Moldova.

This was published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"On May 3,1 Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Russian Federation N. Myynya, was invited to the Foreign Ministry of Russia, where a note was handed to him, which states that in response to the expulsion of five Russian diplomats in Chisinau on 29th May, five employees of the Moldovan diplomatic mission in Moscow are declared persona non grata and are ordered to leave the territory of the Russian Federation within three days ", - it said in a statement.

The Russian Foreign Ministry hopes that Chisinau are "aware of their hostile actions against Russia and the destructive steps undertaken by the Moldovan side, run counter to the principles of partnership and mutual trust."

Dodon had earlier addressed the Russian authorities asking them not to yield to provocations by the Government of the Republic in connection with the event.

On May 29, Moldova declared five Russian diplomats persona non grata. Moldova has a pro-Russian President, and a West-leaning Government.
