Md Ashfaq-Ur-Rahman, leading IT expert of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), Bangladesh's Al Qaeda-inspired terrorist group, was yesterday arrested in Dhaka, Bangladesh's capital city and is currently being detained for 5 days.

Md Ashfaq-Ur-Rahman used to work as an IT professional for Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), an Al Qaeda-inspired terrorist group, known for being behind the murders of several bloggers, known to be critical of Islam.

Ashfaq-Ur-Rahman worked under supervision of Major Syed Ziaul Haque, former military official who later became the head of the military operations of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), after being suspended from his position in the army. Haque is best known for being involved in orchestrating a failed coup back in 2011. Since then, he has been on the run.

During interrogation, Ashfaq-Ur-Rahman admitted that he worked as a chief of information technology (IT) section of ABT. According to the statement from Dhaka Metropolitan Police, he used to collect information on targeted bloggers, in particularly their names, addresses and movements, usually by hacking or monitoring their social media accounts.

He also admitted to have met Major Syed Ziaul Haque several months back, however, he said he has no latest info on him, although seemed pretty sure that Major Syed Ziaul Haque is still in Bangladesh.

Before joining ABT 18 months ago, he was a student of computer science department at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).

According to police, Ashfaq-Ur-Rahman got arrested after he was about to meet a certain individual in Bhatara, east of Dhaka.
