The 10th annual Astana Economic Forum took place in Astana on 15-16 June. More than 4,000 participants from 100 countries gathered in the futuristic Kazakh capital for the occasion. This year’s forum - titled “New Energy – New Economy”, focused on renewable energy, green economy, sustainable economic growth, world trade and infrastructure.

Astana Economic Forum allows for dialogue on the relation between Central Asia and the rest of the world. For Kazakhstan, it is an opportunity to show the world its economic progress.

Kazakhstan, a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, is trying to reduce its energy dependence on oil and gas.

"Oil and hydrocarbons will lose value as a source of energy," said Minister of Economy of Kazakhstan, Timur Suleimenov. We understand that we have to diversify and we are making tremendous efforts in other areas, such as non-mining, but we are also improving medical and educational services. This is the future”.
