Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said the amassing of the US troops in southern Syria is illegal.
“It is absolutely illegal as the move was not made in accordance with any decision, reached by the UN Security Council, nor was it made following a request of the legitimate authorities in the Syrian Arab Republic”, Bogdanov was heard saying.
He, however, said Moscow does not exclude cooperation or dialogue with the US-led coalition.
Regarding the possibility of contacts between Russian and US officials on the Syrian issue, Bogadov said such things are also possible, although not guaranteed at this point.
For his part, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said his country refuses to comment on the possibility of an armed conflict with the Washington-led international anti-ISIS alliance in Syria.
In turn, the newspaper Kommersant reported that Russia has now defined a “red line” for coalition aircrafts.
Reports also surfaced, claiming that Moscow has started to move its air defense systems in Syria, following the decision to suspend its cooperation agreement with Washington on preventing aerial incidents while raiding ISIS in Syria.
Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson stressed he prepared a plan to “fix” relations with Russia.
The plan reportedly includes three main points:
The first one to aims to persuade Moscow to refrain from hostile acts against US and its national interests, noting that Washington would respond immediately, should any of the Russian actions be considered hostile.
The second one aims to create a dialogue on the issues of Syria and North Korea as well as cyber security.
The third one focuses on the importance of maintaining strategic stability with Russia.
