The US government has reportedly sold $12bn worth of fighter jets to Qatar, merely few days after the US President Donald Trump accused the country of being a high-level sponsor of terrorism.

The deal was signed between the US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis and Qatari Minister of State for Defence Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah on Wednesday and is said to include 36 F-15 jets.

Pentagon claims the sale would help to increase security cooperation between the countries, in addition to having a positive effect on the US economy as it would help to create about 60,000 new jobs in 42 different US states. 

During the meeting, Mattis and Al Attiyah discussed their campaign against ISIS as well as the ongoing diplomatic crisis between Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

It is noteworthy the deal was signed after the US President Donald Trump accused Qatar of being a high-level sponsor of terrorism on Friday.
