The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) intends to expand its trade and economic relations with Greece, leading to dialogue with other countries in the Union, said Commission Minister for Integration and Macroeconomics, Tatyana Valovaya.

On Saturday, in Moscow, Valovaya and Greece's Deputy Foreign Minister Georgios Katrougkalos signed a joint declaration on co-operation between the Eurasian Commission and the Government of the Hellenic Republic. This is the first document institutionalizing cooperation between the two countries.

"Economic and trade relations between the Union and Greece are basically those that exist between Russia and the Hellenic Republic", Valovaya said. “We need to expand the already existing dialogue with other countries in the Union”.

According to her statements, Greek partners have agreed to this proposal by expressing the will to organise a forum in one of the countries of the Union.

The Eurasian Commissioner also noted that the number of EU Member States interested in developing relations with the EAEU is increasing.

The Greek representative Katrugalos, in turn, stated that Greece would like to become a bridge between Europe and the Eurasian Economic Union. He also noted that switching from statements to actions could only take place through direct collaboration between countries, which would also allow for increased exports.
