Astana, Kazakhstan has hosted the historic summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Historic because for the first time since its official founding, the organization has new members. Now it includes two other nuclear powers - India and Pakistan. In addition, SCO has united almost half the world's population. According to the Russian representative at the summit Vladimir Putin, all this will make the organization more influential, and not only in Eurasia. Visible evidence of the growth of the SCO authority - for the first time at the summit was the UN Secretary General.

The six founding countries flags added two new organizations - India and Pakistan . So, the geopolitical map of the world now have a new "big eight".

In a joint photo opportunity are the Indian and Pakistani prime ministers, along with the leaders of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It may seems like protocol formality, but in this picture is the very Eurasian power structure. 

Recently, it seemed that the dialogue between India and Pakistan is not possible. These are countries with historically difficult relations and territorial disputes. The big eight bring together almost half the world's population and generates a quarter of global GDP. 

"In the countries of the SCO, underground ISIS cells operate. It showed the terrorist attack investigation and we have in Russia, in St. Petersburg. According to reports, ISIS is preparing new plans of destabilization in Central Asia and the southern regions of Russia. Therefore, we must strengthen coordination of special services of the SCO ", - said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Russia is at the forefront of the fight against terrorism, particularly in Syria. We'll all know. I think this is the right call to support our common efforts to combat terrorism, particularly in Afghanistan, our Central Asian neighbour" - said the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. Afghanistan is currently in observer status at SCO.

Answering journalists' questions, Putin said that no one in the world will be able to survive an encounter between the US and Russia. "Very correct and very topically. So, the feature of the SCO is that it will not allow the destabilization of the world", - said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

The enormous potential of the regional economy was praised the Chinese leader Xi Jinping. His project "Silk Road" refers to the new transport corridors between Asia and Europe, and in the future free trade area.

"We call on simplifying trade procedures, develop a program for coordinated development of highways, create a Union of centers for economics and business associations", - said President Xi Jinping.

Leaders utilised the summit as a platform for bilateral contacts. Putin talked with the President of Mongolia and with Prime Minister Sharif on joint projects. 

The Russian pavilion is one of the biggest in the expo area, showcasing nuclear power and possibilities of the Russian Arctic. Icebreakers, floating nuclear power stations will provide electricity to entire remote villages. The expo will remain an exhibition for 3 months, after which it will be visited by more than 2 million visitors.
