Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement on Friday, saying that a terrorist cell was eliminated in the western Iranian province of Kordestan.

According to the statement, the terrorist cell was planning to carry out terror attacks and other acts that would help to destabilize the country.

Upon discovering the cell, clashes between the IRGC forces and the terrorists immediately broke out.

Three terrorists were killed during the operation and another one was captured, in addition to confiscating large amounts of their weapons and ammunition.

Terror attacks in Iran are rare, however recently, on the 7th of June, its capital city of Tehran was devastated by a pair of terror attacks that targeted the Iranian parliament building and the shrine of Imam Khomeini, the leader of the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

19 people lost their lives and some 50 others were left injured.

Responsibility for the attacks was later claimed by the terrorist group ISIS.
