Three weeks after general election, the head of the British government Theresa May has finally managed to begin forming her government, after striking a deal with the ultra-conservative Democratic Unionist Party of Northern Ireland, on Monday.

In the last general election, which took place on the 8th of June, the Conservatives lost the absolute majority in the House of Commons.

The election, in which May saw an opportunity to strengthen her position amid the Brexit vote, turned out to be a disappointment  as the Conservative party only won 317 seats out of 650, thus making it unclear at first whether May and her party would be able to govern at all.

On the contrary, the Democratic Unionist Party only managed to secure ten seats in the House of Common.

Earlier today, Arlene Foster, the leader of the party, said the agreement with May’s cabinet also includes  £1 Billion of extra funding for Northern Ireland for the period of the next two years.

Foster said it would greatly help to boost the economy and investments in new infrastructure, in addition to provide education and health sectors with necessary financial resources.
