Russian Foreign Ministry’s Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, said on Thursday that provocative and unverified rumours, made up by the Trump administration that the Syrian authorities are reportedly preparing another chemical attack in Syria, are directed not only against Damascus, but Moscow as well.
“Unfortunately, Washington has come up with new baseless accusations against the Syrian leadership, claiming the government in Damascus is allegedly planning a new chemical attack” Zakhavrova was heard saying, adding that situation resembles a large-scale provocation, both in terms of the military aggression and media propaganda, and is directed not only against Syria, but Russia as well, noting the US is only looking for a cheap excuse to start paving its way for a new intervention in Syria, while using the blatantly illegal steps to start an armed conflict with a sovereign country.
Since Monday, the White House is spreading rumours, accusing the Syrian authorities of preparing another attack with chemical weapons in the nearby future, threatening that Damascus would “pay a heavy price”, should it ever resort to use that kind of force.
No evidence to back up such claims was ever provided. The White House also refuses to give any further details about its “speculations”.
