Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow will respond, in an “appropriate way”, to any types of US threats, provocations or even military aggression against Syria, adding that the American accusations and rumours about the Syrian authorities allegedly preparing to carry out another attack with chemical weapons, are nothing new and have absolutely no credibility.
“We call on Washington to stop looking for excuses and pretexts to strike the Syrian forces”, Lavrov was heard saying during a press conference with his German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel, on Wednesday, adding that Syrian authorities so far did everything in their power to allow for the prompt and thorough independent investigation into Khan Sheikhoun incident.
On Monday, the White House issued a public statement, accusing the Syrian authorities that they are preparing another attack with chemical weapons somewhere in Syria in the nearby future, threatening that Damascus would “pay a heavy price”, should it ever resort to use that kind of force.
No evidence to back up such claims was ever provided. The White House also refuses to give any further details about their “speculations”.
