Poroshenko has refused to unblock the social network "VKontakte" (VK), Russia's version of Facebook.

The petition to abolish the blocking of VK was started on May 16 and received more than 25,000 signatures.

"This is also a great advertising platform, which helps in the marketing of domestic products and content. The loss of this platform has had an extremely negative impact on domestic producers of any type of goods, services and events" - said in the text of the petition.

"On the basis of the priorities of Ukraine's national interests ... the abolition of the use of the Russian holding company Mail.ru Group and other Russian Internet companies, for a period of the next 3 years, is an appropriate legal measure."
- said the response published on Thursday by the press service of Petro Poroshenko.

The President of Ukraine explained the refusal as "protection of Ukrainian citizens manipulation of the public consciousness," as well as from harmful content. He also accused the company Mail.ru Group and Yandex in the monopolization of the online services market.
