The Yandex search engine and internet services giant has decided to close their offices in Kiev and Odessa due to sanctions, as stated by company representative Ochir Mandzhikov.

Yandex.Ukraine is included in the sanctions list, and all of its accounts have been frozen; the company can not pay salaries to employees. It was decided that employees retain the right to work in the company's offices in other countries.

Earlier, a similar decision was taken by Mail.ru, a large social media and email service portal.

Last week, Ukrainian Security Services raided the offices of Yandex.Ukraine in Kiev and Odessa in a criminal probe for 'treason'. The Intelligence agency accused the employees of the company of collecting and transferring personal data of Ukrainian citizens to Russia, including the sources and amounts of incomes, telephone numbers, email addresses and social networking accounts. In particular, it concerned those who were involved in the fighting in the Donbass.

Yandex denied the accusation and said that the company will not suffer large losses from the withdrawal from the Ukrainian market.

On May 15, by decree of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, access to Russian social networks such as VKontakte and Classmates, as well as major web portals such as Mail.ru and Yandex were banned from service in the Ukraine, cutting off millions of interconnected citizens between many different countries.
