Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Battalion officially announced the release Saif Al Islam Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, noting that he left the city of Zintan on Friday.
Gaddafi’s release comes amid the general amnesty bill that was recently passed in the Libyan parliament, following several exchanges and correspondences between the Libyan Ministry of Justice and the interim government.
The purpose of the bill is to grant stability and security in the war-torn country by releasing various political prisoners.
Abu Bakr Battalion, itself responsible for capturing Gaddafi back in 2011, later urged the Libyan authorities to follow that particular example and release the remaining people included in the amnesty bill.
