The arrival of the Syrian Army and its allies at the Iraqi border as well as control, established over vast portions of land in the Syrian Desert, marks a turning point in the entire Syrian war, a statement from the General Command of the Syrian Army and the Armed Forces said on Saturday.

The statement comes after army units managed to establish full control over Al Tanf border area on Friday.

The arrival at the Iraqi border was reportedly achieved after taking control over a large number of important strategic positions, located inside the Great Syrian Desert, totalling at about 20 thousand square kilometers of land since the start of the operation, first beginning south and east of Palmyra, where hundreds of ISIS terrorists were killed.

“This achievement is a strategic turning point in the entire war on terror and will greatly allow for future expansions in whole of the Desert area as well as Iraqi border,” the statement further added.

This latest achievement is highly important as it tightens the belt around the remaining ISIS elements in the region, in addition to cutting off its supply routes from many directions.

It also shows the remarkable strength of the army and its allies and their firm determination of annihilating the threat of terrorism.

However, the statement also warned that danger is not completely gone as there are not only the remaining elements of ISIS, but also the so-called US-led “anti-ISIS” international coalition that frequently carries out acts of aggression against the Syrian Army, especially when the latter is on its winning streak.

The General Command concluded its statement by saying that war against ISIS and other terrorist groups will go on until the last terrorist is eliminated and security and stability are fully restored within the entire Syrian territory.
