The Foreign Ministry spokesman, Maria Zakharova, shared information about the 'bad habits' of her boss at her 8th June press briefing.
According to Zakharova, the Minister for Foreign Affairs used to be a heavy smoker, but this situation is now in the past. "Now, it has significantly reduced, he only smokes a couple per day" - said Zakharova during the briefing.
For the Minister, it is no longer a bad habit she assures, and has become a part of a diplomatic etiquette, when, after talks with his counterparts, Lavrov joins the atmosphere and the conversation by having a cigarette.
Sergey Lavrov in the past was indeed so dependent on the addiction, that he refused to stop smoking even in the UN building, in spite of requests from the management of the Secretary General of the organization. At the time he served as the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, whereby other foreign ministers often commented on the 'Russian's' habit.
Good on him for kicking the habit somewhat!
