NATO has been accused of inactivity in Montenegro in the fight against severe forest fires, contrary to the promises of the authorities, said the opposition Democratic Front (DF).

Hundreds of tourists were evacuated from the municipality of Tivat, material damage from fires continues to grow. Emergency services of the republic, by Montenegro's own admission is not enough.

"NATO authorities have failed in the promise that Montenegro will be equal to Brussels", - said the DF.

The opposition movement stresses that since the beginning of fires this season, not one NATO aircraft has come to help, there is no military personnel who would be involved in saving property and lives of citizens.

"Obviously, the only NATO aircraft that Montenegro saw, are those who bombed our people in 1999"

Earlier, Minister of Defense of Montenegro, Predrag Boskovic said that Podgorica is ready to participate in all NATO operations, including on the territory of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo. According to him, all that the republic can give NATO now is 1950 troops and 450 thousand euros annual fee.

In early June, Montenegro officially became the 29th member of the North Atlantic Alliance. Much of the population of this former Yugoslav republic was against joining the Alliance, as evidences by protests. However, Montenegro has a pro-Western political elite.
