The Former Soviet President, Mikhail Gorbachev, said that Russian-American relations soured when the United States announced their, rather than our, victory in the Cold War.
"It is not our fault that the US, instead of ascertaining the total victory in the Cold War, decided to declare their victory. This is the root of errors and failures that undermined the foundation for a new relations between our countries", - said Gorbachev.
According to the former leader, it is necessary to "do everything possible to overcome the current dangerous impasse."
"To do this, there is one proven means - a dialogue based on mutual respect. This is a difficult path. Three decades ago, our dialogue with the United States was not easy. He had enemies, detractors tried to throw us out of the way", - said the former president of the USSR.
He stressed that for the normalization of relations it will require a political will of the leaders of the two countries.
