Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on the US and EU leaders to rethink their position towards Syria and lift the sanctions which they imposed on the country.
“Continuing communications between Moscow and Brussels is a very important step forward, while cutting them off is a sign of shortsightedness,” Lavrov was heard saying during a Tuesday’s press conference, held together with Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
For her part, Mogherini stressed that the EU is ready to support the process of returning the normal life to Syria.
Since 2011, EU has imposed several sanctions and restrictions against Syria’s leadership and its citizens.
