Ankara will purchase from Moscow two anti-aircraft missile systems S-400 and produce two more on their territory. The transaction value is estimated at $ 2.5 billion.

Earlier, the Director of International Cooperation and Regional Policy of the state corporation "Rostec", said that the technical specifications of the contract have already been approved and monetary, commercial and political issues are being disucssed.

Turkey has long wanted to buy anti-aircraft missile systems. First, the country planned to buy them from China. But this idea was not approved by the NATO allies, as Chinese systems can not be integrated into the system of air defenses through out the alliance. Ankara then announced that there were no other options to buy from and the money allocated to foreign anti-aircraft missile systems will be spent on developing their own defenses.

However, Turkey is proceeding with buying the S-400s from Russia, which, according to experts, is unlikely to please the North Atlantic Alliance, further distancing the country from the NATO allies.
