National Security Council on Defense Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov said that the decision to introduce biometric controls at the Ukrainian border will first and foremost be directed at citizens of Russia.
"Mandatory biometric data relates primarily to citizens of other countries and stateless persons,but foremost this in relation to Russian citizens, in order to increase security." - Turchinov said after a meeting of the NSCD.
According to him, the decision was made in order "for saboteurs, terrorists and spies" not to be able to cross the Ukrainian border with false documents.
He noted that the implementation of these tasks will require necessary equipment and funds. These will be allocated to the border service by the government.
