The US and Australia have successfully tested a hypersonic missile (more than 5 times the speed of sound), which can reach speeds of up to 12,000 kilometers per hour. The Defense Minister of Australia confirmed that the launch was made on July 12 at the site of Woomera in the South of Australia. 

The US Air Force, the Ministry of Defense of Australia, Boeing and BAE Systems, as well as the University of Queensland all took part in the creation of the rocket. The project cost is estimated at $ 54 million.

Developments in the field of hypersonic weapons are also happening in Russia and China. The has media repeatedly reported on trials of new high-speed missiles in China. The head of the Russian corporation "Tactical Missiles" Boris Obnosov, said that the first hypersonic missiles can be set up in Russia before 2020, and their availability to the Armed Forces en masse will begin in the 2030-2040 years.
