Alia Faisal Abdullatif Al Shaba, Yemeni Human Rights Minister and a member of the Houthi-led Supreme Political Council cabinet, confirmed the increased number of cancer-related deaths and birth defects, resulting from the British-made cluster bombs, that are being dropped by the Saudi aviation on the Middle East's most impoverished country.

During a meeting with the High Commissioner for Human Rights Office in the Yemeni capital city of Sanaa, Laith Al Amud, she expressed her condemnation of the ruling of the British High court to continue allowing the export of  cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia. The two also discussed the humanitarian situation in the country.

The Yemeni minister affirmed there are hundreds of local and international reports that prove beyond any reasonable doubt that the British-made cluster bombs, used in the Saudi raids, not only kill civilians in complete opposition to the International law, but also cause the rapid growth of cancer and birth defects, stressing that the government will provide UNHCR with all documented cases of cancer growth and birth defects, caused by these bombs.

The report to the UNHCR will include all cases of human rights violations that happened in Yemen since the start of war back in March 2015.

Last year, Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) launched a judicial review of the British government’s decision to continue granting weapons-export licences to Saudi Arabia, despite widespread concern over increasing number of civilian deaths, caused by the Saudi bombardment.

Yesterday, however, the British High Court ruled that arms exports to Saudi Arabia can continue, ignoring hundreds of documented cases of disastrous results of using the British made cluster bombs.

It is noteworthy that the very same Britain often accuses the Syrian government of attacking civilian population with prohibited chemicals, in addition to frequently criticizing other countries and their human rights records.
