The US decision to limit the issuance of visas to Russian citizens is not due to technical, but political reasons. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

The procedure for issuing nonimmigrant visas to the US was suspended from Wednesday, August 23. From September 1, this procedure will resume. However, visas will be issued only at the US Embassy in Moscow and none of the others across Russia.

Washington explained the innovations by the forced reduction the number of employees of the diplomatic mission in Russia. Previously, American visas were also issued by consulates in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok.

Zakharova noted that the main reason for this decision is not the technical difficulties faced by the very well-equipped US consular service - both materially and in human resource terms. At the core clearly are considerations of a political nature.

Zakharova referred to the example of other countries in the West, in particular, Europe. According to her, they issue many times more visas, while having a much smaller number of employees for their clearance. "Apparently, one of the tasks of our American colleagues was to provoke dissatisfaction of Russian citizens with the actions of Moscow," she said.
