French authorities have closed down a mosque that used to be a meeting spot for the Salafists and other supporters of terrorism.

Yesterday, local authorities in Sartrouville, a commune north-west of Paris, decided to shut down the mosque, notorious for being a major meeting point for the local Salafists.

The local authorities described the mosque as one of the pillars of the French radical Islam, noting that several of its frequent visitors who have gone to Syria and Iraq in 2013 to fight alongside the terrorist groups, have been arrested for preparing or participating in terrorism-related activities.

Despite this, Said Jalab, head of the cultural association of Sartrouvile Muslims, categorically denied these claims. “We were shocked”, he told AFP.

In Fontenay-aux-Roses, a commune located south-west of Paris, local authorities decided to down a Mosque in the quarter of Paradis due to being a meeting point of terrorism supporters.

The developments come in the wake of the new anti-terrorism law which was passed by the French Parliament on Tuesday.

The state of emergency, imposed after the horrific attacks on November 13, 2015, and which was extended six times so far, however, is supposed to end on November 1st.

It is noteworthy that France was one of the countries that armed and funded the jihadists in Syria.
