BAGHDAD, Iraq. The Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi has announced that the joint coalition of the Iraqi Forces liberated the entire district of Al Qa'im in the west of Anbar province, following fierce clashes with the remains of ISIS terrorists in the area.
The Iraqi PM, who is also the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, has congratulates the Iraqis on the occasion.
“The commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Haider Al Abadi congratulates Iraqis on liberation of Al Qa'im in record time,” a brief statement by Abadi’s office said on Friday.
For his part, the commander of the liberation operations in western Anbar, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah, said in a statement that the joint coalition of the Iraqi Forces, consisting of the Iraqi Army and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), Iraq’s largest paramilitary group, began their process of liberation of Al Qa’im district first by breaking through ISIS defense lines in the southern side of the town of Al Qa’im and then proceeding towards the central axis of Al Tanak neighborhood, before crossing through three more defense lines set up by ISIS. Eventually, the Iraqi Forces reached the heart of the very last ISIS stronghold in Iraq.
Yarallah also announced his forces operating in Jazeera region took control of Husayba, located at the Syrian border in the vicinity of Al Qa’im.
Later, the PMU announced complete control of Al Karabila and Saada, both located in Al Qa’im district.
Al Qa’im was the very last ISIS stronghold in Iraq. Today’s victory has basically sealed the fate of ISIS in Iraq.
