At least 10 Saudi princes and dozens of former ministers have been arrested, following orders by the newly-formed anti-corruption committee headed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Saturday evening.

The committee said it’s reopening the case of the 2009 Jeddah floods, as well as investigating the Corona virus, otherwise known as the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus.

The anti-corruption committee is led by the Crown Prince bin Salman who is aided by the Chairman of the Monitoring and Investigation Commission, Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Authority, Chief of the General Audit Bureau, the Attorney General and the Head of State Security.

According to the Saudi law, the committee has the right to investigate, arrest, ban from travel, freeze accounts and personal assets, track financial transaction of individuals, suspected of being involved in corruption practices.

The developments point, along with the number of arrests of various political and religious figures during social protests last month, to the fact that an era of turmoil might be coming to Saudi Arabia.
