BEIRUT, Lebanon. Saudi Arabia has ordered its citizens to depart Lebanon immediately.

An official source at the Saudi Foreign Ministry said that in light of the situation in the Republic of Lebanon, the Kingdom is asking its visiting citizens and permanent residents in Lebanon to leave as soon as possible. It also advised its citizens not to travel to Lebanon from any international destination.

A well-informed source told Al Mayadeen network that Lebanon will soon provide its formal request for the return of its Prime Minister Saad Hariri who stepped down while visiting Saudi Arabia on Saturday, should he not return to Beirut in the coming days.

Hariri is currently staying in Saudi Arabia.

For his part, the Lebanese Interior Minister Nohad Machnouk pointed out that the Lebanese political system is based on elections, not sales.

In a related context, the Saudi Attorney-General decided to summon 208 people for questioning in connection with the recently-launched “corruption” probe, saying that current findings indicate that at least $100 Billion has been wasted in corruption and embezzlement.

So far, seven out of 208 detainees have already been released without charge. The Saudi Attorney-General noted that normal commercial activity was not affected by the investigations, adding that only personal bank accounts were frozen.

“The authorities will not disclose any details on detainees at the moment in order to protect their legal rights” , he said.
