The Russian air forces carried out an air strike on ISIS targets in Syria, Russian Defence Ministry's Spokesperson stated in a briefing in Moscow on Friday.

Russian Defence Ministry's spokesman Igor Konashenkov pointed out that the air strike inflicted a "devastating damage" to ISIS terrorists and their "fortified zones, arms and munitions warehouses, militants gatherings and important command points" in Abu-Kemal on the Syria-Iraq border.

He added that "the Veliky Novgorod and Kolpino submarines continue to fulfil combat tasks as part of the operational communication with the Russian Air forces in the Mediterranean Sea."

Six Russian long-range Tu-22M3 bombers and the Kolpino submarine as well as Su-24 and Su-34 bombers and Su-30Sm, Su-35 and MiG-29 fighters were engaged to carry out the strike.
