The recent report of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the United Nations accused the Syrian government troops of being responsible for the Khan Sheikhoun chemical attack, without providing any evidence.
The fact that the OPCW has not properly acknowledged the possibility that sarin gaas was in the possession of the rebels in Khan Sheikhoun, on April 4, 2017, is yet another major issue with regard to the veracity of the OPCW report and its findings.
There have been multiple sources of evidence in the past that the terrorists in Syria were getting toxic substances the same way they were getting many of their arms - from Saudi Arabia through Turkey.
The Syrian government has rejected the OPCW report results, noting that the experts had not conducted any investigations directly at the scene of the incident in Khan Sheikhoun. The Permanent Mission of Russia to the United Nations said that the report looked more like an amateur document and was based mostly on assumptions, and selective use of facts.
Maria Zakharova, Russia’s Foreign Affairs spokesperson, went further and drew comparisons to the “damning evidence” that the US brought to the UNSC, in relation to Saddam Hussein’s alleged programme for the production of WMDs in Iraq – none of which ever existed. The entire debacle was based on briefs prepared by US intelligence, causing us to question the validity of the claims against Syria’s government today, in the absence of an objective investigation.
