The anthem of the Russian Federation may be banned at the Winter Olympics 2018. According to the leadership of the International Olympic Committee, there is also a possibility of prohibiting the Russian team from participating in the opening ceremony of the Games.

According to The New York Times, the IOC can also apply financial sanctions on Russia and fully prohibit the participation of athletes and official participants of the Russian delegation in the Olympics.

The publication specifies that the decision to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation for doping at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics will be announced on December 5, 2017.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Vitaly Mutko, said there are "not very good expectations" from the results of the work of the commission of the International Olympic Committee under the leadership of Denis Oswald.

At the moment, the IOC commission, headed by Oswald, is reviewing samples from Russian athletes that competed in the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. On November 6, in Lausanne, hearings will be held on cases of Russian bobsledders and skaters.
