Russian President Vladimir Putin held telephone talks with US President-elect Donald Trump. This was reported on Monday, November 14th, by the Kremlin’s press service.

The Russian leader once again congratulated the Republican on winning the elections and wished him success in realizing his electoral platform. The head of the Russian state expressed readiness to develop relations with the new White House administration “on the principles of equality, mutual respect, and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.”

As noted by the Kremlin’s press service, Putin and Tramp agreed that Russian-American relations are in an “extremely poor state” and spoke in favor of active joint work on normalizing relations and “pursuing constructive cooperation on a wide range of issues,” in particular “the creation of a reliable foundation for bilateral relations by means of developing their trade-economic component.”

The Russian and American presidents, according to the Kremlin’s report, also agreed on the necessity of joining efforts in the fight against “common enemy number one,” international terrorism and extremism. “In this spirit, issues in the settlement of the crisis in Syria were discussed,” the Kremlin indicated.

Putin and Trump agreed to maintain telephone contact and personally meet in the future.
