Ukraine will buy US coal to spite Donbass economy - Like This Article

May 30th, 2017 - Fort Russ News -

The Ukraine has finally settled on an "ethnically-correct" fuel for its thermal power plants. Australian, African and even Georgian coal has recently been brought up as an alternative to Donetsk anthracite, but neither suited the consumer.

Georgian fuel was almost $ 100 per tonne, too expensive for the Ukrainian budget, while African coal simply refused to burn in Ukraine's boilers.

Coal from the USA has been settled on; Ukraine intends to negotiate with the United States on the supply of 3.5-4 million tons per year. This was stated by Minister of Energy and Coal Industry, Igor Nasalik.

"The US is ready to export 300-350 thousand tons per month. If we agree, then we will not need another source of coal." According to Nasalik, the price of the US proposal is "interesting", while coal transportation costs will be 'significantly less' than the supply from South Africa, for example.

However, 'even a schoolboy' understands that coal brought from a far away land is times more expensive than the one that is mined in the Donbass, writes Antifashist. The Donbass wass Ukraine's traditional internal supplier of energy needs.
