Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about the criticism of Russia because of the conflict in the Donbass and in Syria. He stated this at the second International scientific-expert forum "Primakov readings" in Moscow, a transcript of which is published on the website Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the event, Lavrov was asked about Russia's ability to make compromises in international politics: "Kissinger has a phrase, that says Russia in a historical perspective often could not compromise and got defeated on various issues Do you not think that "we're not playing in our own league, if it really was a number of issues we were defeated in"? - Lavrov was asked.

"It all depends on who is looking at a particular situation. I do not know whether it is perceived in the political science community that we "do not play within our league." I have read and still hear the criticism that we shouldn't have got involved in the Syrian conflict, or supported the Donbass.
If we did not, we would have betrayed our civilization, that our ancestors for hundreds of years helped to create, and expand." - said Lavrov.
