BREAKING: Trump signs executive order to place more sanctions on Venezuela - Like This Article

August 25, 2017 - Fort Russ News - Paul Antonopoulos

US President Donald Trump has signed an Executive Order to impose new financial sanctions on what Office of the Press Secretary has termed "the dictatorship in Venezuela."

Mirroring to how the US refers to the Assad government, the press release refers to the democratically elected government of President Maduro as a "dictatorship" and "regime" and claims that the "dictatorship continues to deprive the Venezuelan people of food and medicine, imprison the democratically-elected opposition, and violently suppress freedom of speech."

The sanctions will target "bonds owned by the Venezuelan public sector, as well as dividend payments to the government of Venezuela," the statement revealed.

In response, Jorge Arreaza, the Foreign Minister of Venezuela, has said that "the United States wants to be authoritarian and impose unilateral sanctions."

He then urged on the United Nations to reject the US imposed sanctions against Venezuela.

"We know that the Secretary of the United Nations will defend the peace in Venezuela," he said.

He then went onto say that "the United States needs to respect the internal affairs of Venezuela. It cannot tell us what to do."
