Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged the Turks in Germany not to vote for Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in the forthcoming federal election.
“I am addressing the people of my background in Germany: do not vote for the Christian Democratic Union Party, the Social Democratic Party and the Green Party. They are enemies of Turkey. These German parties believe that they will reap more votes by attacking Turkey, while claiming that responsibility to reduce tensions between Ankara and Berlin is on Turkey, not Germany. It is a matter of dignity for our people in Germany to be voting only the parties that support our country,” Erdogan was heard saying, while claiming that Germany “no longer complies” with the European Union standards.
“I have provided Merkel with the files of 4,500 wanted terrorists (in Turkey), but we have not received any positive response until today and we are still waiting”, he added.
On September 24th, federal election will be held in Germany.
