Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has highlighted that the oil in Kurdistan belongs to all Iraqi people and not just individuals or political parties.
"Kirkuk's oil does not belong to individuals or parties, why has the Kurdistan Regional Government [KRG] not paid people's salaries," Sura News quoted Abadi as saying.
"Over 900,000 barrels of oil are sold everyday by the KRG, the Kurdish people must ask where this money is going if not to them," he also said.
When discussing about the disputed regions that are not a part of the KRG but under their control, Abadi said that "the KRG cannot continue imposing faits accomplis by force like Saddam's Ba'ath Party."
The statements made by the Prime Minister comes as the KRG prepares to conduct a referendum on the regions independence tomorrow.
It is expected the majority of the people where the referendum will be held will vote in favor of independence.
