Leaders of US and North Korea continue to insult and threaten each other.
Earlier, the US President Donald Trump had insulted the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as a “madman who doesn't mind starving or killing his people, and who will be tested like never before”, on his Twitter account.
Previously, while delivering his first speech at the UN General Assembly earlier in the week, Trump vowed to “totally destroy North Korea”, and mocked its leader as a “rocket man”, while calling for a response from the North Korean foreign minister who has since described Trump’s speech as the “dog barking .”
Meanwhile, Russia has expressed deep concern about the escalation of tensions over the North Korean crisis amid the exchange of threats between the US president and the North Korean leader, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying that Moscow is deeply concerned about the escalation of tensions in Korean Peninsula which is linked to the exchange of harsh statements, threats including, and called on both sides to refrain from such rhetoric.
“Moscow believes that a political and diplomatic solution is the only way to deal with the North Korean crisis“, Peskov said. “Any other solution could result in undesirable, if not even catastrophic consequences”, he added.
On Thursday, the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that developing nuclear weapons would not bring security to the North Korean government and that China's help was important to put Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs “under control.”
“North Korea believes that nuclear weapons will ensure the survival of its regime, while in fact, nuclear weapons only lead to further isolation, shame and deprivation”,Tillerson said at the UN Security Council session.
In return, Kim Jong-un promised that Trump would pay a “bitter price” for his threats to North Korea, only a few hours after Washington announced tougher sanctions on Pyongyang.
He also called Trump a “mentally deranged U.S. dotard.”
