The independence referendum in Iraq's Kurdistan region has already opened voting to Kurds in the diaspora K, a Rudaw reporter has revealed.
Namo Abdulla, Rudaw's Washington Bureau Chief, has revealed on his Twitter that voting has begun for diaspora Kurds, with the first vote being cast in China.
That is it. #Kurdistan referendum has gone ahead. Diaspora Kurds can begin early voting. First vote has been cast in China.— Namo Abdulla (@namo_abdulla) September 22, 2017
The Kurdish people have a two million strong diaspora community, most significantly in Germany, Israel and France.
The unconstitutional referendum takes place on Monday in Iraq where it is expected that the majority of people will vote in favor of independence.
All major countries and international organisations, with the exception of Israel, have denounced the referendum.
